Introduction
A high-altitude cold desert, Ladakh receives very little precipitation and is mainly dry, with vegetation concentrated primarily in river valleys. The largest city, Leh, is linked to both Srinagar and Manali by highways (National Highway 1D and the Leh-Manali Highway, respectively). Most of the internal roads in Ladakh are accessible year-round, although the major highways close for the winter. Therefore, this valley is inaccessible from the outside throughout the winter months. The summers are mild and the winters are severe.
From Manali to Leh, the trip takes 8 days.

Located south of the Karakoram
Mountains and to the northeast of Ladakh, Nubra Valley is a triangular valley with three branches. Ancient Hunder served as the kingdom’s capital of Nubra. Khardung La, at an elevation of 5,490 metres (17,582 feet), is on the route from Leh to Nubra valley. The Chamba Gompa, the Diskit Gompa, the Maitreya statue, and the sand dunes between Hunder and Diskit are just a few of the attractions here. The two-humped Bactrian camel occasionally makes an appearance here to munch on seabuckthorns. The goats in Baigdandu, whose wool is used to make Pashmina shawls, are well worth a visit.
Ladakh is also home to Pangong Lake
A stunning endorheic salt water lake located to the east of the region at an elevation of around 4,370 metres (14,270 feet). It is 134 kilometres in length and only 5 kilometres wide at its widest point, hence it spans the border between India and China. In the dead of winter, the lake freezes over completely. In addition to being prohibited from boating on the lake, visiting the lake requires an Inner Line Permit because it lies on the Sino-Indian Line of Actual Control.
